Black and White Portrait

© Dearisha

I originally shot this portrait in color eleven years ago for Getty Images. I just rediscovered it and was curious to see what it would look like in black and white. Using Topaz software I made the conversion and really am pleased with the results. I just entered this into Lens Culture’s Black and White Awards.

Portrait at a Summer Fair

Portrait of Joseph Smith shot at a summer fair in upstate NY. Part of a series I’m currently shooting for Getty Images. I shot a series of these about 5 years ago and my Getty art director asked if I would revisit this project with them in mind. I love this kind of guerrilla approach to shooting portraits. It doesn’t get much more real than this.

Hardhats Project

Here’s the latest portrait from my Hard Hat Project, street portraits of people who work in  hard hats. There aren’t too many women out there but I’ve managed to find a few. I found her on the corner of 86th St. and Lexington Ave. I didn’t have my equipment with me but asked her if I could come back and shoot her. She agreed.

Award Winner – International Color Awards

This portrait of a NYC construction worker was just awarded in the 2018 International Color Awards in the portrait category. This is part of a new project I’ve been working on titled Hardhat. I’ve shot about 40 people so far (including some women). After I shoot another 20 or so i’ll do an edit and put them on my website. This is the first one that has been unleashed upon the world.

My Half-Drag project recently published in Vantage was then picked up in Viewfind as as part of The Best Photography Of The Month. It then appeared in Digg. I shot this series 4-5 years ago when it went viral and it is still being recognized.

Diverse New York City Faces

For the past few months I have been working closely with Sarah Foster, the senior manager of creative content ay Getty Images creating a collection of studio portraits that represents the diversity of people in NYC. We cast close to 50 people and have so far shot 25. From time to time I’ll be posting the images to my blog. I’ve been shooting for Getty for over 20 years and so far this has by far been my favorite project. It’s right in my wheel house. Above is native New Yorker and actor, Spawn.
