Neo-Burlesque
Burlesque Portraits at The Museum of Sex
31 of my Neo-Burlesque portraits will be on exhibit at the The Museum of Sex in New York City opening on March 31, 2001. The show, titled The Nudie Artist: Burlesque Revived will be up for 3 months. In addition to my portraits the show will include, illustrations by Luma Rouge, the film Behind the Burly Q by Leslie Zemeckis and personal artifacts from the collection of burlesque performer/showgirl Mara Gaye. It will be a great exhibit so please come.
New Portraits – Dame CuchiFrita
I just completed a very interesting portrait shoot with neo-burlesque performer/actress Dame CuchiFrita. Because of her acting skills we thought it would be interesting to present her with a real life scenario to internalize and see what kind of physical emotion that would result in. She did a great job of running through a range of emotions as I shot away. I liked this particular shot for it’s realness and beauty.
New Portraits – Stormy Leather
This is my recent portrait of Neo-Burlesque performer Stormy Leather. We decided to go for the androgynous look that Stormy does so well. I lit this with just a beauty dish with a grid to accent her amazing bone structure. We decided to keep the styling really simple which to me really highlights the wistful, far away look that she has in this shot. My burlesque portrait of Stormy is one of the images chosen by The Museum of Sex for my upcoming 3 month exhibition there.
New Portraits – Velocity Chyaldd
This is my recent portrait of Velocity Chyaldd; performance artist/extreme burlesque performer/producer and front woman for for the band Vulgaras. One of the most intense looking people I’ve ever met, I wanted to capture that within a tight frame. It’s lit with one small chimera and soft grid to keep the light off of the background allowing the white background to go grey. I previously shot Velocity for my Neo-Burlesque series and it is one of the portraits selected by the Museum of Sex to be included in my upcoming exhibition there opening end of March.
New Portraits – Magic Max
These portraits are of magician and burlesque sideshow performer Magic Max. Max obviously has great hair and plenty of character in that face so I decided to shoot tight and really pack the frame for maximum impact.
Projekt30 The Sex Issue Volume 6
Five of my neo-burlesque portraits are included in an online show on Projekt30. This is their annual “Sex Issue”. This is the 3rd straight year that my images have been voted into the show.
New Portraits-Doc Wasabassco
Fom a recent shoot with Neo-Burlsesque and night life producer Doc Wasabassco.
Graphis 100 Best in Photography 2011
My portrait of Albert Cadabra was just given a gold award in the Graphis 100 Best in Photography 2011 Competition. This is the second year in a row images from my Neo-Burlesque series have been chosen by Graphis for this prestigious award.
Apathy Angel
This is my recent portrait of Neo-Burlesque performer Apathy Angel. One of a handful of performers I’ve shot with masks, this was one of the most intense. I love that silver and black.
A quote from Apathy:
“Burlesque is performing and entertaining but it’s also a way of expressing the things that I’m feeling. I like to think of it more as performance art than a sideshow or as body entertainment or stripping. When someone comes up to me after one of my more ‘out there’ performances and asks, did this symbolize or mean anything personal to me, then I feel like I’ve succeeded in getting across my message beyond the audience just seeing a girl get naked on stage. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.”
