After aCurator magazine ran a feature on my Women of 5th Avenue project, Britain’s Big Issue magazine called to ask if they could write an article about it. The Big Issue is published for homeless people to sell, keeping half the money; it’s what the magazine calls “a hand up, not a handout”.

I found this interesting construction on Route 17 West on the way up to the Catskills in upstate New York where we go to spend our warm weather weekends. It’s connected to a roadside ice cream shop where we stop when we’re feeling the urge.
'Tattered Face' © Leland Bobbé
Tattered Face and Tattered Hoops were shot on 5th Avenue in the lower 30’s on a temporary construction wall covered with peeling posters. I love the collage-like effect and the faces that seem to seep out of the wall in fragments.

A series of my street images placed 3rd in Artrom’s ‘Split Second Impulse’ competition.

‘Blue Chairs’ was shot in Times Square on a rainy afternoon. I was struck by the empty chairs just sitting in the middle of the street and everything seems to have a glow.

Newly-launched aCurator magazine featured my series of women ‘of a certain age’ photographed on upper 5th Avenue in Manhattan, in the first issue. The series looks great in the full screen format and apparently the readers loved it; London’s glossy magazine The Big Issue, a publication distributed by and for the homeless, featured my series in their review of aCurator.

‘Knockout’ was shot in the Times Square subway station. I liked the juxtaposition of the boxer knocked out on a video monitor right next to the poster of the lively musicians.
