NYC 1970’s
With the recent launch of my new website I re-edited my collection of street photography from NYC in the mid-1970’s. Looking at this collection of images it struck me once again how much this city has changed since then. Personally I found the old city much more exciting and edgy and wish the current NYC had a bit more of the old. This shot was taken on 8th Ave. just north of infamous 42nd street. This stretch of 8th Ave used to be called the Minnesota Strip because of all the runaways form the mid-west that ended up there as prostitutes. Shot from the hip while walking with a pre-focused 28mm lens on my Nikon FM with Tri-X film.
I am now collaborating with Julie Grahame of aCurator Magazine on a feature which will be coming out soon.
New Portraits – Gothic Hangman
This is my recent portrait of gothic surrealist painter/photographer Gothic Hangman. With style for days and a personality to match, I got away from the tight face shooting i’ve been doing over the past few months in order to get all that I wanted into that frame. Once again i used my trusty beauty dish as the only light source, working it to light both him and my background.

New Portraits – Jorden Haley
I met designer Jorden Haley at my opening at the The Musem of Sex. Jorden owns Bird of Prey, a ready to wear label featuring esoteric graphic prints, custom accessories and sterling jewelry He had a great look and presence and I asked him if he was interested in sitting for a portrait. I wanted to capture something moody and off beat so we did a lot of shots with him looking off camera. This shot did it for me.
New Portraits – Bettina May
I recently photographed burlesque performer and pin-up model Bettina May. Bettina is known for creating a very ’40’s vintage persona in terms of hair and style but for this shot I wanted to shed that and just capture the beauty of her amazing hair and a great expression. Once again for me the beauty dish rules.

New Portraits – Jung Nam Lee
I met artist Jung Nam Lee at my Neo-Burlesque exhibition opening at the Museum of Sex. As soon as I saw him I knew i had to get him in front of my camera . . . he was into it. I asked him to wear exactly what he was wearing at the opening because i really liked the vertical and horizontal stripes along with his salt and pepper hair. I shot this in the studio with a 300 mm lens lit with a beauty dish.
New Portraits – Giulio Adriani
I was recently having dinner at Olio Pizza e Piu in the West Village in NYC and spotted this really interesting looking gentleman buzzing around the kitchen who happened to be award winning Neopolitan pizzaiolo Giulio Adriani. I approached him, told him who I was and asked if he’d be interested in sitting for a portrait. I gave him my card went back to my table and saw him immediately head for the computer where i figured he was checking out my work. Before i knew it there was a free desert being delivered to my table and a smile on his face. He acceppted my invitation and this was the result.
