New Portraits – New Orleans
This is another portrait from my recent trip to New Orleans. I found Jed playing stand up bass in a band on the street in the French Quarter. I approached him during a break and it turns out the band came all the way down to New Orleans from Maine just to play on the streets. I found this great wall right around the corner and shot this in about 5 minutes.
New Portraits – New Orleans
Recently in New Orleans for a wedding Robin and I spent some time roaming the French Quarter looking for interesting faces for portraits. Armed with my camera and a reflector we came upon this gentleman playing guitar and selling his cd. I love these kind of faces, so much character. He was game and this was the result.
The Amazing Dr. Flux
I recently saw a snapshot of Dr. Flux on Facebook in his half woman half man persona and immediately got in touch with him to see what we could do together in the studio. He brought some costuming but we decided to go for the stripped down approach to really emphasize the message. I shot the profiles to possibly use next to each other and while we were editing Flux suggested looking at the full nude shot in between the individual profiles and this is the result. Below is the tighter single that we liked best. I’ll go out on a limb and predict some contest wins down the road.
Loupe International Awards – 3 Images
Three of my portraits have been awarded in the 2011 Loupe International Competition. VFW and Cheeky Lane each won Bronze awards while my studio portrait titled Frank won a Silver Award. A nice way to end the year . . .
Award Winner – One Life Photography Competition
My portrait above taken at a summer fair in Deposit, NY was selected by the editorial committee of the One Life Photography Competition to be included int their upcoming museum quality book titled One Life Photos. This was an international competition and only a select few images will appear in the publication. Thank you One Life!
Award – 5th Annual Photography Masters Cup
My photograph titled Owen was just awarded as a nominee in the 5th Annual Photography Masters Cup in the portrait category. This competition honors color photography only. This was shot right on the streets of NYC using a 200mm lens, natural light and a reflector.
New Portraits – Al Maddy
This is my recent portrait of guitar player Al Maddy. I saw Al at a club one night and asked if he would be interested in sitting for a portrait. He agreed and showed up with among other things this Moroccan hooded robe. I shot him wearing a few different things but to me this shot has the mood and mystery that set it apart. Lit with my trusty Profoto beauty dish.
New Portraits – Julie & Mike
This is my portrait of Julie Grahame and Mike Hartley, two close friends of mine. Julie is the brains behind the award winning aCurator, an online photography magazine featuring full screen imagery. Mike is the man behind bigflannel web design. I’ve been a client of Mike’s since 2003 when I launched my first website which won a PDN award. A couple whose looks have morphed into one.
