Texas Road Trip
Ed’s Place, 7 in a series from a road trip . . . and the burgers weren’t too bad. This joint did not lack personality.
First Place PX3 People’s Choice Award
I’m very pleased to announce that my “Neo-Burlesque” Book Proposal just won a first place People’s Choice Award in the 2010 PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris in the book category. This is Narcissister!!! one of the most recent portraits from my project.
A quote from Narcissister!!!:
“I really love to confront issues through my work that are much broader than what I personally might have experienced. I bring aspects of myself, my history, my ethnic background and myself to the work. I try to portray different characters in the way an actor might. I really want to speak about universal issues for women and I feel the mask is a neutral face that enables me to be much more universal.”
Jonny Porkpie
Known as The Burlesque Mayor of New York City, Jonny Porkpie is both a Neo-Burlesque performer and the co-producer of Pinchbottom Burlesque, where “Artistic striptease confounds oblivion.” Here he is in both his all-American suit…
Water Wall
I saw this at the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park in Chicago. I like the way the figure seems to emerge from the falling water . . . I especially love the hands.
Sax Player
My intention with this shot was to create a portrait of a sax player outdoors at night in New York City. For the sake of authenticity I thought it would be important to cast a real sax player. I wanted the styling to reflect that 60’s R&B look so we went to a costume house and selected what i thought was the perfect wardrobe. The sax player is standing on a huge rock in Central Park with me facing south as dusk falls over the city.

Amber Ray
Amber Ray, burlesque performer, costume designer, artist, and all around creative force. We shot two different costumes and i preferred this very sultry pussy cat.
A quote from Amber: “Burlesque performers need to find their individuality. It is a highly personal art. Bring something of your spirit to the table. Don’t just try to be a channel for Betty Page.”
Legs Malone
Legs Malone is one of the premier perrformers on the Neo-Burlesque scene. I shot Legs after she returned from a trip to India with a shaved head. The long haired wig she brought to the shoot was a great prop.
A quote from Legs: “The most important thing to me about burlesque is that the body falls away and it’s truly the spirit that’s right there. Really holding in my mind what I am communication in the moment, what part of my spirit is coming through, what is my internal dialogue that needs to come across . . . that’s what is important.”
