On The Subway

I shot this yesterday in the subway. They had just announced a delay and the woman next to may displayed this expression of dismay. I shot it, one second there, the next second gone. That’s what makes street photography so exciting. These subway shots just may be the beginning of a new series. Shot on my iPhone and mage processed using Snapseed.

I shot this in the subway a couple of days ago and using the app Snapseed managed to get this painterly effect. It’s amazing what one can do on a phone these days.

Recently I’ve started to get back to my roots began to shot some black and white street photography. This time around I’ve been using my iPhone which is always in my pocket. The great thing about it is that people are so used to seeing people staring into their phones that it’s very easy to shoot on the street and no one takes notice. This surreal image was shot on the north corner of Union Square Park at 17th Street after rain storm.

It’s been a a few weeks since my last blog as I’ve been busy making prints for the Museum of the City of New York of my 70’s NYC street photography followed by a week’s vacation.

I recently had the pleasure of shooting guitar player Carlos Alomar for my Unsung Heroes project. Carlos is best know for his collaboration with David Bowie having played on more Bowie albums than any other musician. Carlos has also collaborated with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Simple Minds. Iggy Pop and The Pretenders. A wonderful guitar player and a wonderful man.

Texas Road Trip

A few years ago my wife and I did a road trip through Texas. We tried to stick to back roads as much as possible and I found some really great buildings along the side of the road. Lots of charm and old school feel. I particularly liked this shot because of the color and the potted plants. I could have done without the telephone/electric lines against the sky but was not about to retouch them out. I go for real . . .

I recently did an interview with art consultant Marla Hamburg Kennedy which was just published to her Art and Living blog. Through answering these questions I actually realized a few things about some of my favorite photos that I had never really thought about before. Each one of these 3 photos has the juxtaposition of being stuck and having time move on at the same time. Please read the interview to see more.

Creative Boom, an art, design, photography and culture website is featuring my portraits of Musicians over the age of 50. I’ve really been enjoying capturing the essence of these musicians in black and white after years of shooting primarily color. It’s taking me back to my roots.

I was going back through all of my iPhone shots the other day and found this that I had totally forgotten about. This is one of the very first shots that I ever took on an iPhone. I just happen to catch this at the right moment. I love the light and love the mood.
