I have been asked by Stephanie Heimann, the senior photo editor at The New Republic to take over their Instagram feed for one week starting tomorrow 4/30 through the following Friday and post two of my Neo-Burlesque portraits per day. Their one request . . . not too much skin. They can be found on Instagram as @newrepublic

Portrait of Yan

This is a recent portrait of Yan who I found on Model Mayhem. I shot this in color and processed into black and white using Topaz software. I liked the black and white better especially the platinum color hair against the dark background. She was good in front of the camera which always helps.

Another interesting observation on the NYC subways. Captured on my iPhone and processed with Snapseed. I’d love to know what’s on that kid’s mind . . .

Winter Trees

There’s something about winter trees that captivates me. They have a strength and beauty that you just don’t see when they are covered with leaves. I shot this in color and processed into black and white using Topaz software. I also used Topaz Adjust to bring out the clouds and add to the dark mood of the image. At least for now,  I can’t stop looking at it.

My 1970’s Street Photos in The Museum of the City of NY

I’m proud to announce that 18 of my gritty street photos from NYC in the mid 1970’s have been accepted into the permanent collection at the Museum of the City of New York. Little did I know that as a 25 year old roaming the mean streets that these photos would end up in a museum. I first approached them with this work about 3-4 years ago and I can tell you that persistence pays off.

I shot this during a winter drive in upstate NY. Shot in color and processed into B&W using Topaz software. Whenever I the a shot like this it reminds me that there are potential great photos all around us, it’s just a matter of seeing.
