This shot was just named as a winner in the 2017 International Color Awards. I shot this on Thanksgiving eve a few years ago. The family was attending the annual blowing up the balloons event before the Thanksgiving Day parade. One of my personal faves.

Recent Book Cover

One of my Times Square images  from the mid 1970’s was recently used as a Book Cover for Blue Money by Janet Capron. This novel tells the story of a woman working the street of NYC during this era. A perfect fit.

My Half-Drag project recently published in Vantage was then picked up in Viewfind as as part of The Best Photography Of The Month. It then appeared in Digg. I shot this series 4-5 years ago when it went viral and it is still being recognized.

My Work in Calcco

I found this article by chance today through a Facebook notification on a Spanish visual communication publication. With the help of Google Translate I was able to actually read it as my high school Spanish left me years ago. It covers many of my projects including Half-Drag, Neo-Burlesque, Urbanscapes, Women of Fifth Avenue, and Scapes.  Nicely done . . .

Diverse New York City Faces

© Leland Bobbé

For the past few months I have been working closely with Sarah Foster, the senior manager of creative content ay Getty Images creating a collection of studio portraits that represents the diversity of people in NYC. We cast close to 50 people and have so far shot 25. From time to time I’ll be posting the images to my blog. I’ve been shooting for Getty for over 20 years and so far this has by far been my favorite project. It’s right in my wheel house. Above is native New Yorker and actor, Spawn.

Rights Managed Sales Live!

© Leland Bobbé

In recent years the landscape of stock photography has changed dramatically.  Most stock agencies have turned to royalty free as their default business model and as a result its very hard to make consistent high dollar stock sales. Great for the client bad for the photographer. I just had two MAJOR rights managed sales of this shot through Getty Images to the same client for pharmaceutical usage one for print advertising and one for online use.  I spotted these twins at an upstate NY fair years ago and they agreed to pose for a portrait. It just shows that it’s best to rely on your instincts.

My image titled Black Swan was one of the  images curated into Fabrik’s 2017 On The Street Photography Competition and will be shown at Fathom Gallery in LA as part of a larger show titled Present But Not Involved, an exhibition of Street Photography. This show will be showing works of over 60 street photographers with images dating back to 1897 through 2017. The show illustrates the evolution in photographic style and technique from the inception of  street photography. April 29-May 27.
